Choose the Right Pair of Boots

Quality footwear is an investment in both comfort and safety, so it’s only natural that you want to buy a pair of boots that meet all your needs. Since Carhartt boots come in different styles and with a variety of features, you are bound to find the right pair for any job and any industry.

Safety Features

If you are exposed to the risk of foot injury on your job, safety features are probably one of your top priorities. Our collection of Carhartt boots includes several designs featuring a reinforced toe box, metatarsal guard, as well as some puncture-resistant models for ultimate feet protection from all types of injuries and hazards.

In general, reinforced toe boxes are made either of steel, composite materials, or metal alloys. In addition, some Carhartt work boots also feature a metguard for extra protection from falling objects or compression. Finally, puncture-resistant boots offer protection from sharp objects piercing the sole when stepped on.

If you are unsure about what features to look for, below is a short overview of the differences between reinforced toe boxes and the characteristics of the metguard and the puncture-resistant layer.

Steel toe – The steel toe work boot is the classic PPE footwear. Although steel is the heaviest option when it comes to reinforced toe boxes, it is also the most resilient and offers maximum protection from all types of hazards. Whether it’s a heavy object or a sharp tool, a Carhartt steel toe work boot will keep your foot safe. However, since it transmits heat and cold, a steel toe may not be the best safety feature for you if you work in environments where temperatures tend to get extreme.

Composite toe – The composite toe balances protection with comfort and reduced weight, and is different than steel toe in several aspects. Since the materials used in their production are non-metal, composite toe boots are lighter than their steel counterparts and are slightly less resistant to damage. However, they still meet all relevant standards in terms of safety boots. The main advantage of a composite toe is that it does not transmit heat or cold, which makes it ideal for working in environments where temperatures are an issue.

Alloy toe – The alloy toe is made of light but sturdy metal alloys in order to provide the wearer with protection levels similar to those steel offers, with less added weight. However, just like steel, metal alloys also heat and cool easily and will trigger metal detectors.

Metguard – Metatarsal guards offer additional protection for your feet and are used in conjunction with a reinforced toe box. They are designed to cover the top of the foot, either from the inside or the outside of the boot, and protect the metatarsal bones from all types of crushing injuries. Since they are made of light materials, the added weight is negligible, especially when compared to the benefits they offer.

Puncture-resistant plate – Our puncture-resistant Carhartt boots feature a SWEN-FLEX ® plate in their sole, which provides the wearer with both comfort and safety. Unlike conventional steel plates, SWEN-FLEX ® is more flexible and light-weight and protects your feet not only from punctures but the cold also. In addition to meeting or exceeding all safety standards, it does no trigger metal detectors.

Stay Warm With a Pair of Insulated Boots

If low temperatures are a concern for you, a pair of insulated Carhartt working boots is probably what you are looking for. Warmer and thinner than most insulating materials, ThinsulateTM and LiteFire® insulations used in the production of Carhartt Boots are designed to keep your feet warm even in the coldest environments. Depending on the temperatures you are exposed to and whether you are stationary or on the move, you can opt for a thicker or thinner insulating layer.

Are Carhartt Boots Waterproof?

Most of the Carhartt boots in our collection are waterproof. However, there are also several models which are not, so make sure you check the product description and use our product filters if you need a waterproof boot for traversing wet ground or working in rainy weather.

The innovative Storm Defender® waterproof breathable membrane, used in the production of waterproof Carhartt boots, is designed to keep your feet dry, while allowing them to breathe and allowing you to stay focused, comfortable, and on top of your job.
